I know it’s been a hot minute since I have made a post, but after what I heard Saturday night during the Duke/Georgetown game, I felt compelled to post.

I mean, it’s not everyday that Dick Vitale formulates an intelligent thought.

In fact, I think this is the first time in history.

No, Vitale wasn’t talking about how much he loves: Duke, Carolina, Ohio State, Tyler Hansbrough, Joakim Noah, or anyone else that his baldness sucks off on any regular scheduled telecasts.

He was talking about why college basketball’s championship system is better than college football’s.

Vitale’s point? That no matter what happens in college basketball during the regular season, team’s still have the chance to win the title. In football, if you lose your hopes and dreams are gone. You have nothing else to play for. Your season is over.

I couldn’t agree with him more. In fact, I was so dumbfounded that I agreed with him, that I rewound the DVR and listened to what he said again. I mean I had to make sure that I wasn’t hearing things. Vitale never says anything worth a damn, was I just imagining it?

Nope, he really said it. And I really agreed.  Amazing.

We all know that the BCS is a bunch of bullshit. Every year people have gripes with whose playing whom for the National Championship, and whose not playing whom for the National Championship. This year it’s Florida or Michigan. Two years ago it was USC or Oklahoma. And who knows who it will be next year.
In college basketball we don’t care about any of that.

We love when a team like George Mason beats a team like Carolina and UConn. We love the fact that any team in the field of 65 teams has a chance at cutting down the nets. We don’t care if Ohio State lost to Carolina in November, or that Florida has 5 losses and is playing for it all. We relish in it. It’s what makes sports so amazing.

Yeah, college football will never adapt a system like March Madness. I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. But that’s not the point of this post.

The point is that Dick Vitale said something intelligent. The apocalypse is coming. Go out and buy your bottle water and toilet paper and canned goods.

When something smart comes out of that guys mouth, we are all in for some trouble.
