Suddenly The Game Isn’t So Serious
On the eve of what could be “The Greatest College Football Game Ever” (if you believe what you see on ESPN that is) former University of Michigan Head Coach Bo Schembechler has passed away.
You can read all about it here.
His death is certainly a great loss to the University of Michigan, as well as, college football itself. It was untimely and unexpected. We here at fightingdobermans.com send out our wishes to the family and fans of Coach Schembechler.
The hype that has been put onto tomorrow’s big game (#2 Michigan at #1 Ohio State, 3:30pm on ABC, in case you have been living under a rock) is unprecedented. ESPN has had a running clock related to how long we have to kick off for 3 days. It’s ridiculus.
The magnitude of this game certainly is deserving of the hype, but let us not forget that it is just a game.
Bo Schembechler stated that he had no plans to attend tomorrow’s game, but I have a feeling that his presence will certainly be felt tomorrow.
How Michigan and Lloyd Carr react to this loss is something that needs to be watched. The loss of this icon could be a distraction that cannot be overcome, or it could be the ultimate motivator that Michigan needs. We shall see which scenario takes place.
Either way, while you are watching the game tomorrow, either as a Ohio State fan or as a Michigan fan, pour a lil something out for Coach Schembechler. He was heavily involved in this great rivalry for many years.
It’s just too bad he will miss the biggest game that this rivalry has ever seen.
Bo Schembechler has gone home to glory at age 77.
