This Guy Is Good
Ten years ago yesterday a young man named Tiger Woods grabbed his driver, pushed his tee into the ground, reared back and smashed a 300+ yard drive to start his career as a professional golfer.
Yesterday that same man won his 4th straight tournament for a total of 52 career victories. In just 10 years. Wow.
With 52 victories and 12 major titles at just 30 years old it is obvious that we are witnessing history. We are witnessing the greatest golfer to play the game.
Not only is he the greatest golfer to ever hit the links, he is also the most dominant and the most feared golfer of all time. Just take this weekend as a prime example.
Tiger wasn’t his best. He struggled on Saturday and again on Sunday, when he lost a 3 stroke lead with 3 to play to force a playoff. That never happens with Tiger. Normally he would have increased his lead to 5 and won the title before the rains came.
But that didn’t happen. Stewart Cink came back and forced the playoff where they battled for 4 extra holes before Tiger was able to pump that fist at yet another victory (his 5th at that tournament alone).
Before the playoff even started I looked at my wife and asked her, “If you were to be in a playoff with anyone in the world, don’t you think Tiger’s the last man you would want to play against?” After yesterday I’m sure Cink can agree whole heartedly.
And after his 4th straight PGA win (including 2 majors) I think it’s safe to ask the question, “If you are playing in a golf tournament, don’t you think Tiger Woods is the last man you would want to be in the field?”
I think so. And I’m sure the rest of the PGA Tour would agree.
