NFL Rookies Need To Prove Themselves First
I love this time of year. NFL training camps are opening which means 3 things: The NFL Season is almost here, Fantasy Football is back to take control of my life, and NFL teams start to throw crazy money at players that have yet to prove themselves at this level.
We already know that NFL rookies love holding out because they think that they are owed a bunch of money cause they played so well in college.
The 49ers just made Vernon Davis the highest paid Tight End, signing him to a fiive year deal worth more than $23 million. Making him paid more than Pro Bowlers: Jeromy Shockey, Alge Crumpler,Tony Gonzalez and Jason Whitten. And dude ain’t even caught a ball yet.
Yesterday, Vince Young was signed for damn near $60 million and he has yet to throw a pass in the NFL, and some think he won’t even throw one this year.
And Reggie Bush hasn’t even signed his contract yet. I can only imagine what that’s gonna be like. I mean he was a beast at the college level, where he was matched up against guys that were 95% as likely to get drafted as I was. The Saints should just give him $100 million, he has proved he deserves it hasn’t he?
The NFL needs to take a peak at how the NBA handles their draft picks. Have a pay scale for each draft pick which only increases year by year due to inflation. All the contracts are for the same length of time and when they finally prove that they can play at this level, than you can pay them the big bucks.
That would illiminate rookies looking greedy, agents taking advantage of rookies, and me wondering if I should draft Reggie Bush in my fantasy league since he’s holding out and I have no idea when he’s gonna play.
I guess I was wrong, maybe I just love this part of the year for 2 reasons.
